Page 5: To Bryce Canyon (04/18/2003)
We left Zion National Park at around 5:30 PM local time (MST) heading for Bryce
Canyon. Clouds were breaking up, but we did know that it was currently snowing
towards the Bryce Canyon area. Bill who was from up North was not concerned. From
Zion National Park, we headed east along Zion-Mount Carmel Highway (highway 9), which
took us through a 1-mile tunnel through a rock formation. At Mt. Carmel Junction we
proceeded North along US-89. As travel northward continued the clouds broke up
into sunshine; then gathered again, supplying moderate snow near the town of Hatch,
Utah. After about an hour of northward travel and many picture stops on US-89, we
reached highway 12 which took us to Bryce Canyon. We reached Bryce Canyon after
dark, but because of a full moon and about 3 inches of snow, views were magnificent. No photos of the Canyon are below, but a link is given to photos from an earlier visit.

Bill and I arrived at Bryce Canyon National Park about a quarter to 8 PM local time. I expected it to still be light, but since we were only miles from the time zone line, it gets dark much earlier here than in Atlanta, where twilight lasts till about 9 PM. While it was dark, the snow on the ground along with a full moon, allowed Bill to get an idea of what Bryce Canyon looks like. It was however too dark for most photos. I have been to Bryce Canyon before on an earlier trip. Pictured below at the right is a sign that is an example of monetary waste. The local roads are covered with 2 inches of snow; don't you think the white, snow covered road states the same idea?
