Television and Radio Broadcasting Channels can give you a good clue on propagation conditions on amateur radio FM Bands. One way to spot possible skip or tropospheric ducting conditions on the 6m and 2m amateur bands is to watch VHF broadcast television channels. For information on 440 and higher ham band propagation conditions is to watch for distant UHF television channels. For Example: if in my area I receive channel 44 out of Alabama or channel 45 near Chattanooga that gives me a hint of possible long distance propagation conditions on 440 or higher bands. Likewise if I receive Channel 7 out of Alabama or 12 out of Chattannooga, conditions may be good on the 2 meter ham band. Finally, if interference occurs over Atlanta's channel 2 or if Channel 3 can be received from Chattanooga, that might indicate a band opening on the 6 meter ham band. When these conditions occur in Atlanta excitement in my hamshack rises.

Below I have listed links to the seven major broadcast television networks for info on programming and information on affiliate television stations. Also, I have listed all the television stations that I have received here in Cobb County off an television antenna mounted on the roof.
