Day 1 (07/14/2001) Utah/Colorado Trip

We landed at the Salt Lake City Airport at about 11pm the night before. We saw the lights from the city, and elevated lights from the mountains that seem to completely surround the city. The next morning this observation was confirmed, Salt Lake City, is surrounded by mountainous scenery. After breakfast, We left the Holiday Inn, Airport location and headed South on I-15 through Salt Lake City, Provo, Nephi on our way to Bryce Canyon National Park. The many pictures which were taken on the way are posted on this page. Once at Bryce Canyon we ate at the Bryce Canyon Restaurant, where ironically a local area hamfest was in progress, I was in my element!! After a full filling lunch, we then took a bus and walking tour of Bryce Canyon. Pictures taken from Bryce Canyon appear on the following webpage titled "Day1b" After leaving Bryce Canyon, we set out in our rental car along windy Highway 12 through Dixie National Forest for immaculate views and elevations of up to 9,000 feet (Not Many Trees Located in this forest!) . Pictures from Dixie National Forest are located on the third page titled "Day 1c". Total isolation remained all along this highway, with only a couple of houses passing on the way. We ate dinner and stayed the night in Teasdale, Utah at the Wonderland, Inn.
