Coba Mayan Ruins, Spring Break 2000

During My Senior Year at Kennesaw State University, I took a Spring Break Trip to Cozumel, Mexico. The Trip involved 7 days of Scuba Diving, Eating, Nightlife, & Sunbathing. During the last full day of the trip, many of us took a tour of the Coba Mayan Ruins, located about 50 miles west of Tulum, Mexico. These ruins were located in the middle of a Yucatan Mexican Jungle. To get there, we first walked from the Barracuda Hotel to the ferry which we rode for a twenty minute trip to Playa Del Carmen, on the mainland. We then walked from the ferry to the bus station where there about eight dollars purchased us a three hour ride on an air-conditioned bus. First we traveled passed busstops to the south and at Tulum, the bus turned west onto a dirt road heading deep into the jungle. We passed a couple of small villages (some without roofs on their houses, and clothes on their children) on the way to our stop. From the bus stop, we walked about half a mile to the entrance to the ruins. These ruins have been dated to November 30, 780 A.D. in Mayan glyphs. I would guess through the ruins area, we all probably walked about five miles in 100+ degree weather to get the following views. I drank all my water!!. PS. I slept almost the whole two hour ride back, even on the dirt road.
