Memphis Road Trip - Segment Five (08/13/2005)
Mud Island Museum - Memphis, TN

After hiking the 3,900 miles of the Mississippi River, we wondered inside for some refreshments and air-conditioning. After the break we decided to learn a little about the Mississippi River in the Mud Island Museum. This museum covered the tools, weapons, bridges and flood control systems which have been used tame and conquer the Mississippi. Ironically who would have guessed that the lessons learned here were to be in the nations eyeglass, just two weeks later when Hurricane Katrina forced levy failure just 1,000 miles south in New Orleans. While water usually can be controlled, Mother Nature sometimes just has to point out her true power. Enjoy these photos from the Mud Island Museum.
