Memphis Road Trip - Segment Three (08/13/2005)
National Civil Rights Museum - Memphis, TN

After Suffering from Elvis Mania, our next tour took us to the National Civil Rights Museum located on the southern section of the downtown trolley route. This museum actually encompasses two buildings with an added on museum. The first building includes the Lorraine Motel, a minority owned hotel where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968, by James Earl Ray. The tour actually takes you through adjoining room where he was assassinated (only separated by Plexiglas, so you can see into the actual room). Downstairs there is a museum which takes you through nasty fight for civil rights for all citizens. The second building continues the tour and also includes the area where they believe James Earl Ray fired the deadly shots from. This was a very thorough and must see museum. However, don’t bring your cameras, they will be confiscated so you cannot take any inside or grounds photos outside of from the parking lot. Luckily I got these photos. Enjoy!!!
