AZ, UT, NM Road Trip
From there we completed the trip by traveling West on I-40 into Flagstaff to catch I-17 South to
Phoenix. It was interesting watching the car thermometer as it was 79 degrees leaving Flagstaff
and it climbed to a very warm 105 in Phoenix, just two hours away. Some of this temperature climb was because of
daytime heating, but a majority of the temperature difference was because of the descending in
Elevation from Flagstaff to Phoenix. Hope you enjoyed this tour and check out the many virtual
online web tours on this webpage now and in the future.

Meteor Crator, AZ:
Well it is now Day 5 and after leaving the hotel room in Winslow, Arizona we proceeded to our final
stop on this trip before travel back to the Phoenix Airport. The Barringer Crater is located about
40 miles East of Flagstaff, Arizona just south of Interstate 40. This meteor crater is approximately
4,000 feet in diameter and 570 feet deep. The debris rim raises about 150 feet above the average
desert terrain. The crater was created 50,000 years ago when a 54 Yard meteorite from space hit
this much cooler, wetter region which was occupied by grasslands, Wooly Mammoths and Giant Ground
Sloth. I have always wanted to see this crater as it has been featured on many television
documentaries; however, I was very disappointed at its SMALL size. On television this hole looks
massive, several miles across, but it appears much smaller in person when compared with the large
expanse of desert in the backdrop. Photos were taken from the topside of the meteor debris wall,
and from a platform inside the crater.
