AZ, UT, NM Road Trip
(Day Four: July 30,2007 - Page 23)

Petroglyph National Monument, NM:
Just on the Western edge of Albuquerque along the West Mesa sits a volcanic escarpment which dominates the cities western horizon. While not as tall as the mountains East of the city, this area provides a development barrier to the west and these five dormant volcanic cones encompass the Petroglyph National Monument. In this area of many dormant volcanoes more than 20,000 images were carved in the rocks by native Indians and early Spanish setters. At the top of one to volcanic Mesa awesome city views of Albuquerque were taken along with some photos of these historic images. The views are more than worth the climb to the top.
