AZ, UT, NM Road Trip
(Day Two: July 28,2007 - Page 9)

Glen Canyon Dam: Page, AZ:

Once leaving Dinosaur Tracks, we headed back to US-89 to again continue north into Page, Arizona. This became a little bit of a scary trip as our rental car was driving on fumes. Ten miles from Page, after passing three stations which no longer sold gasoline, we drove the last few miles with no air-conditioning and the windows rolled up. Yes it got a little hot, but that is still better than running out of gas. We were going to get gas in Cameron, but there were a few scary people hanging out at the local fuel center, so we thought we would have enough gasoline to make it the 80 miles from more than a ¼ tank; but this was too close. I have never been so happy to see a Shell Station! In the southeast gas stations occupy almost every corner, but not elsewhere. After a stop for gas and at Wal-Mart for a cooler, drinks, and snacks, we passed through Page, Arizona stopping on the other side of town at the Glen Canyon Dam. The Glen Canyon Dam creates Lake Powell and produces electrical power for the region, along with controlling the mighty Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. The following pictures were taken at the Glen Canyon Dam which has a museum and several great picture vistas.
