AZ, UT, NM Road Trip
(Day One: July 27,2007 - Page 5)

Sunrise Crater Volcano National Monument, AZ:

Next we headed to the Sunrise Crater Volcano just North of Flagstaff, AZ along highway 89 North. I along with one other friend had already been here, but the third person on the trip had not, so we all stopped. Pictures are a little dark as we were approaching dark, but everyone had a great time however. This volcano is believed to have erupted around 1070 A.D. and its eruption along with other local volcanoes changed Arizona’s very unfertile soil and made it life supporting to plants, trees and grasses that are not found in other areas of Arizona outside of the Flagstaff Region. Check out my Las Vegas trip for other pictures and a local Indian Tribe, the Waptki, which may have been effected by this volcanic eruption. From here we travel to Cameron, AZ where we stay in a Hopi Indian Tribe Hotel near the Grande Canyon. This Page ends Day 1.
